About Plymouth Discus
Plymouth Discus owned by Chris Ingham started off as a hobby back in 1996 and used to be known as Chris’s discus. simply breeding discus fish only. From just six breeding pairs of discus, 59 tanks were kept fully stocked of up to 2,000 baby discus at any time. This was hard work and time consuming which took up to 18 hours a day to keep everything going. Finding it hard running a large discus fish house and a full time job meant something had to give, and it did!!
Everything changed in 2003 when Chris grew the hobby into a full time business supplying discus fish throughout the UK and also discus support goods all over the world. After over 43 years of being a very keen fish hobbyist Chris, author of many Discus fish articles for three of the UKs top tropical fish magazines in the past: Tropical Fish, Todays Fish keeper and Practical Fish keeping magazines created his own Discus fish business and Plymouth Discus was born.
Plymouth Discus was voted the UK’s best top discus specialist by the customers & readers of Practical Fish Keeping magazine in 2006, 2007, 2008, 2011 & again in 2012. A very big thank you to everybody who voted and supported us. We have again entered the readers poll again for this year, so please vote for us again to keep us at the top as the UK’s best discus specialist. I will add the link to do this once Practical Fish keeping magazine has made it live.
Further awards were in 2003 when the Plymouth discus website won the golden web awards. Also in 2003 Plymouth discus was winner of the best South West new start up business awards run jointly by Enterprise Plymouth and the Western evening herald.
Plymouth discus is the home of the gourmet discus fish food Discus Delights, and remains the Wormer Plus and Discus Delights main distributor. Many breeders have seen great benefits in feeding a safe, wide range of seven different foods that come with each hamper pack. Seven different foods also mean your discus never get the same food every day, so won’t get bored and become finicky feeders.
Plymouth Discus is constantly working on new products and bringing out new and innovative products such as the stainless steel spawning cone guard that is a very handy bit of kit if you have egg eating parent discus.
After writing every month for 9 years in Tropical fish magazine and in some of the other magazines, Chris has now finally completing the long awaited book Discus World.
Update: Discus World book is now available in a revised and updated 2nd edition. This is now conveniently available in paper back and on Amazon Kindle and Amazons create space making this invaluable resource even better value and more accessible worldwide.
Chris is kept very busy looking after his vast and impressive stock of Discus fish and running his discus support online business and still has time to maintain his Facebook page and Twitter feed to answer customer questions.
